Edoardo Mannucci was born in Prato, Italy, in 1965. Dr. Mannucci graduated as Medical Doctor from the University of Florence Medical School, Florence, Italy, in 1990 and received his postgraduate degree of endocrinology from the same University in 1995. He was an Assistant in geriatrics at the Careggi Teaching Hospital of the University of Florence in 2002. From 2004 to 2009, he worked as the Diabetologist in charge of the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic of the Geriatric Section, Careggi Teaching Hospital, the University of Florence. At present, Mannucci is Chief of the Diabetes Agency of Careggi Teaching Hospital in Florence. He is also Teacher of the Postgraduate School of Geriatrics, the School for Physiotherapists and of the Advanced School for Dietitians, the University of Florence. Dr. Mannucci has been a Member of the National Board and National Secretary of the Società Italiana dell’Obesità (Italian Society of Obesity) from 2000 to 2004 and the National Board of the Società Italiana per lo Studio dei Disturbi del Comportamento Alimentare (Italian Society for the Study of Eating Disorders) from 2004 to 2008 and the President of the Tuscany Section of the Società Italiana di Diabetologia (Italian Society of Diabetology) from 2004 to 2008. Presently, he is a Member of the Scientific Board of the Società Italiana di Diabetologia (Italian Society of Diabetology) and Coordinator of the Epidemiology Study Group of the same society. He is involved in clinical and experimental research on diabetes, obesity, and eating disorders; most notably, he has been involved in research on incretin hormones in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, long-term outcomes of hypoglycaemic therapy, epidemiological definition of metabolic syndrome, and predictors of cardiovascular disease in diabetes. He has also participated, as Principal Investigator, in several phase II and phase III studies in GCP. Dr. Mannucci has published several books and over 180 papers in international journals.
