Hira L. Nakhasi

Hira L. Nakhasi serves currently as the Director of the Division of Emerging and Transfusion Transmitted Diseases at the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Bethesda, Md, USA. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of microbiology, immunology, and tropical medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Washington, DC, USA. His main research focuses on the development of Leishmania donovani vaccine and diagnosis. In addition, his laboratory is also developing reagents that can aid in the diagnosis of parasitic pathogens in blood to ensure safety of the U.S. blood supply. His scientific expertise lies in molecular parasitology and vaccinology. This is evident by his publication record, which is over 90 publications including reviews and book chapters, being a member of the review committees of several high-impact journals, reviewer of grants, and being invited to speak at national and international forums. He serves also as a member of several scientific organizations.
