Tetsuo Katsuura was born in Nagoya, Japan, in 1950. He graduated from the Kyushu Institute of Design Science, Fukuoka, Japan, in 1972, and received the Ph.D. degree from the Kyoto University, Japan, in 1986. From 1974 to 1980, he was an Assistant Professor at Kyushu Institute of Design Science. Since 1980, Katsuura is affiliated with the Ergonomics Laboratory of Chiba University, Japan. Presently, he is a Professor. He is mainly interested in physiological anthropology and environmental ergonomics to build a suitable living environment for human nature. He received the Award of the Japan Society of Physiological Anthropology in 2006. From 1997 to 2005, he was an Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Physiological Anthropology. Since 2007, he has been a president of the Japan Society of Physiological Anthropology.
