Marek Samoc serves as the Director and Professor of materials science at the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, the Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland, http://www.ichfit.ch.pwr.wroc.pl. He obtained a Ph.D. degree in 1977 and Habilitation (D.S.) degree from the Technical University of Wroclaw, Poland, 1985. He serves as a Professor of Chemical Sciences and was awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland in 2007. He has been working as a Professor at the Department of Chemistry at the Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland, since October 2008. From 1991 to March 2009, he worked as a Research Fellow, Fellow, and Senior Fellow at the Laser Physics Centre, the Australian National University, Canberra, ACT, Australia. Since 2003, He has been working as a Research Professor at the Institute for Lasers, Photonics, and Biophotonics, SUNY at Buffalo, NY, USA, and Lecturer at the Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry, TU of Wroclaw from May 1977 to September 1991. His research interests and expertise include nonlinear optical materials and effects: second-order nonlinear optical effects and materials, third-order nonlinear optical effects and materials, higher-order nonlinearities, and negative index materials. He has Ca. 240 publications and 4800 citations, with h-index of 39.
