Miguel Perpina Tordera

Miguel Perpina Tordera was born in Valencia, Spain in 1951. He was graduated in medicine in 1974 at University of Valencia, and obtained his M.D. degree, summa cum laude, in 1981. He was trained in pneumology from 1975 to 1978 at the Pneumology Service of La Fe University Hospital (Valencia) and reached the position of Head of Service in that Hospital in 1999. He serves also as Associated Professor since 1987 at the Internal Medicine Department (School of Medicine, University of Valencia). His research is focused on asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, with special interest in the pathogenesis of bronchial hyperresponsivenes, cough, dyspnea perception, and health related quality of life. He has published more than 200 papers about these topics. Currently, he is also interested in applying the systems biology to airway diseases. He was designated by the Spanish Society of Pneumology (SEPAR) as President of the Executive Committee for Asthma Research Programs (2005-2006), General Secretary (1991-1995), and Editor in Chief of Archivos de Bronconeumología (2001-2004).
