David J. Sherman

David James Sherman was born in Conn., USA, in 1964. He received his B.S. degree in mathematics (1986) and his M.S. (1989) and Ph.D. degrees (1994) in computer science from the University of Chicago, Chicago, Ill, USA. Subsequent to a postdoc in Bordeaux, France, in 1991, Sherman joined the Computer Science Faculty of the ENSEIRB Engineering School in Bordeaux, now part of the Polytechnical Institute of Bordeaux. In 2009, he was recruited as a Research Director (equivalent to Professor) at the INRIA, the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control. He currently leads the MAGNOME Project-Team, which develops algorithms and methods for comparative genomics and the inference of function and history of genomes. His research interests are involved with data mining, logical inference in knowledge bases, and semiautomatic generation of hybrid stochastic models of cell behavior.
