Marcos Garcia-Fuentes got his B.A. degree in pharmacy in 1998 (University of Santiago) and his Ph.D. degree in pharmacy in 2004 (University of Santiago de Compostela). Garcia-Fuentes has been a Visiting Scientist at Purdue University, Ind, USa with Professor Nicholas Peppas and a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at ETH Zurich with Dr. Lorenz Meinel and Professor Hans Merkle. Since 2007, he has been a Principal Investigator at the NANOBIOFAR Group, Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, University of Santiago de Compostela. His major scientific areas of interest are (1) new cell therapies based on gene-modified stem cells; (2) design of implantable devices against cancer initiating cells; (3) design of controlled release devices for biotechnological drugs; (4) design of innovative nanotechnological platforms for improving the delivery of drugs in challenging applications (i.e., transmucosal delivery, targeted delivery of cancer therapeutics, etc.). In the past years, his group has contributed to these research areas not only with several publications in top-ranked journals, but also by issuing relevant patent applications to protect our proprietary technologies.
