Mark S. Johnson

Mark S. Johnson received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Chemistry (Biochemistry), University of California, San Diego, Calif, USA, in 1986, in the laboratory of Professor Russell Doolittle. He finished his postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Professor Tom Blundell, at the Department of Crystallography, Birkbeck College London, and later as part of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund unit. Then he is recruited to the Turku Center for Biotechnology (1994) and invited as an Acting Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Åbo Akademi University in 1997; a Nominated Professor in 2000; and a Tenured Professor in 2004. Presently, he is a Professor at the Department of Biosciences (Biochemistry), Åbo Akademi University; the Director of the National Doctoral Program in Informational and Structural Biology; and the Head of the Structural Bioinformatics Laboratory of Åbo Akademi. His research studies are primarily with proteins, their structure, function, and evolution.
