Ali A. Al-Jabri

Ali A. Al-Jabri is a Professor and the Head of Immunology Division in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Oman. Professor Al-Jabri has obtained his Ph.D. degree from the St. Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of London, UK in March 1997. Professor Al-Jabri has been awarded over 20 research grants by the College of Medicine, SQU, Research Council in Oman, and others. In total, Professor Al-Jabri research output includes 8 textbook chapters and over 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, more than 60 abstracts presented at local and international conferences. The research of Professor Al-Jabri has been recognized by the College of Medicine & Health Sciences and SQU and was awarded the “Best Researcher” award for the year 2007. Professor Al-Jabri's main research interest is to study the mechanisms of natural resistance to HIV infection, particularly the role played by the human leukocyte antigens (HLA). Professor Al-Jabri has held important administrative positions such as the “Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs” in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences from 2004 to 2008, Acting Dean for the College of Medicine, Acting Head of Department of Microbiology and Immunology, and currently heading the Immunology Division. Professor Al-Jabri has served on 55 different committees (10 departmental, 27 College, 13 University, 3 SQU-Hospital (SQUH), and 2 national committees), in addition to many other ad hoc committees and the membership of 6 international professional societies. He has participated in organizing 8 workshops and conferences and is an Active Member (Associate Editor) of the Editorial Board of SQU Medical Journal and extensively involved in reviewing manuscripts and grants for local and international bodies.
