Umberto Volpe obtained both his Medical degree and his Specialization in psychiatry magna cum laude at the University of Naples SUN (Italy). He attended a 4-year course of specialization in postrationalistic cognitive psychotherapy at the Association of Cognitive Psychology, in Rome (Italy). He attended the Ph.D. course in behavioural sciences at the University of Naples SUN, at the Neurotec Department of the Karolinska Institute of Stockholm (Sweden), and at the Department of Psychiatric Neurophysiology of the University of Bern (Switzerland). In 2010, he has been invited as Guest Researcher at the University of California Los Angeles (USA) to work in the field of EEG and neurofeedback. In 2009, he has been appointed as Secretary of the Section on Schizophrenia of the European Association of Psychiatry (EPA) and in 2010 as Cochair of the Early Career Psychiatrists Committee of EPA. He is currently Staff Researcher at the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Naples SUN (Italy), where he works in the outpatient unit for psychotic and anxiety disorders. His more recent research interests include structural and functional brain imaging of negative symptoms in schizophrenia, multimodal (EEG, fMRI, and MRI) imaging of the correlates of body/shape disturbances in eating disorders, burnout, and wellbeing among mental health professionals and the pathways to psychiatric care.
