Mattias Goksör was born in Jonkoping, Sweden, in 1975. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from the University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1999 and 2004, respectively. In 2004, he also received an M.S. degree in business administration from the School of Economics and Commercial Law at the University of Gothenburg. In 2005, he was awarded a distinguished Guest Researcher position within the Scottish University Physics Alliance (SUPA). Presently, he is an Associate Professor at the University of Gothenburg and Manager of a faculty-funded microscope research facility. HE is mainly interested in developing experimental techniques for single cell analysis. This includes optical manipulation (optical tweezers, holographic optical tweezers, optical force measurements, and laser scalpels), advanced optical imaging, and microfluidics. In 2006, Goksör was selected as one of the most promising young researchers in bioscience in Sweden by the Swedish industrial interest group SwedenBio, and in 2008, he became the Chairman of the Biological and Medical Physics Section within the Swedish Physical Society.
