Massimiliano Pontecorvo was born in Rome, Italy, in 1959. He received his Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1989 (advisor: Claude LeBrun). He has been a Member of SISSA in Trieste, Università di Bologna, and Università "Federico II" di Napoli; since 1995. he has been Professor of geometry at Università degli Studi Roma Tre. During the period 2000-2004, he has served as Italian Coordinator of the European Research Training Network (EDGE). He has been an Invited Speaker at several international conferences in Japan, Mexico, the United States of America, Scotland, Denmark, Austria, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Germany, France, and Italy. His main research interests are self-dual four-manifolds, Hermitian surfaces, complex geometry, twistor theory, and quaternionic geometry.
