Mauro Maccarrone
Mauro Maccarrone was born in April 7, 1962, in L'Aquila (Italy). He is a Full Professor of biochemistry at the School of Veterinary Medicine, the Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, and the Chairman of Biotechnology at the University of Teramo, Italy. He is a Visiting Professor at the School of Medicine, University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy. He received his M.S. degree in biological sciences (final grade 110/110 summa cum laude et encomio solemne) from the University of L'Aquila, Italy, Ph.D. degree in enzymology from the University of L'Aquila and University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy, and Ph.D. degree in bio-organic chemistry from Utrecht University, The Netherlands. From 2004 to 2005, he was the Chief of the Laboratory of Neuropharmacology and then of the Laboratory of Neurochemistry (2005-2006) of the IRCCS C. Mondino, Mondino-Tor Vergata Center for Experimental Neuropharmacology, Rome, Italy. Since 2006, he has been the Director of the Laboratory of Neurochemistry of Lipids of the European Center for Brain Research (CERC)/IRCCS S. Lucia Foundation, Rome, Italy. He was awarded the 4th Royan International Research Award for Reproductive Biomedicine (2003) by the Royan Institute of Tehran (Iran), under the patronage of the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE). Moreover, he is awarded the Gold Medal of Mansoura University (Egypt) for promoting international cooperation (2004). He is awarded the 2007 IACM Award for Basic Research by the International Association for Cannabis as Medicine.
