Maurice W. Sabelis

Maurice W. Sabelis was born in 1950 in Haarlem, The Netherlands. In 1975, he finished his M.S. degree in theoretical production ecology, entomology, and crop protection at the University of Wageningen, wageningen, The Netherlands and obtained his Ph.D. degree at the same university in 1980, based on a thesis concerning biological control of two-spotted spider mites. After an Assistant Professorship in the Department of Animal Ecology at the University of Wageningen (1980–1984) and an Associate Professorship in the Department of Animal Ecology at the University of Leiden, Leiden, The Netherlands (1984 –1988), he became a Full Professor in population biology at the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (1988 –now). In 2006, he was awarded an Academy of Sciences (KNAW) professorship for his scientific contributions to the field of evolutionary dynamics and population ecology and for his efforts to establish a research group in population biology at the University of Amsterdam.
