Clio Mavragani received her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees (honors) from the National University of Athens, Athens, Greece. She also received a Diploma in internal medicine from Imperial College, University of London, London, UK, with distinction. She was trained in rheumatology at the Department of Pathophysiology, University of Athens (Head: Professor H.M. Moutsopoulos). She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York as a recipient of S. Niarchos Foundation International Exchange Fellowship before becoming faculty at the National University of Athens Medical School. Her research focuses on the contribution of genomic retroelements in activation of type I IFN system in systemic autoimmune disorders and the interactions between cytokines and and IFNs pathways.
