Benjamin Shaw received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from Colorado State University, Colo, USA, in 1981 and 1984, respectively. Following this, he received the Ph.D. degree in 1989 in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Princeton University. Shaw also was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, San Diego, for the period 1988 to 1989. He then was a Faculty Member at the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Connecticut from 1989 to 1991. Shaw has been a Faculty Member in the Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering department at the University of California, Davis, from 1991 till present. His research interests include applied mathematics, combustion, microgravity phenomena, pollutant detection in soil and groundwater, and transportation. Shaw became an ASME Fellow in 2003.
