Antonio Macciò was born in Iglesias, Italy, in 1956. He received a degree in medicine (summa cum laude), and his postgraduate specialization is in gynecologic oncology and medical oncology at the University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy. From 1999 to June 2013, he has served as the Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of Maternal and Child Health, and the Unit of Gynecology Oncology at the Sirai Hospital, Carbonia, Italy. Since June 2013 Macciò worked as the Chief of the Department of Gynecologic Oncology, Businco Hospital, Regional Referral Center for Cancer, Cagliari, Italy. His research interests include pathophysiology and treatment of cancer-related anorexia/cachexia, oxidative stress, and pathogenesis; treatment of cancer anemia, human tumor immunology, immunocompetence of cancer patients, and immunotherapy; laparoscopic surgery; and combined modality treatment of gynecological tumors.
