Wenyuan Shi studied genetics as an undergraduate student at Fudan University in Shanghai, China, and received his Ph.D. degree in genetics from University of Wisconsin in 1992. After that, he continued his postdoctoral work in molecular and cell biology at UC Berkeley, Calif, USA. Today, he serves as a Full Professor and as a Chair of Oral Biology Section at UCLA School of Dentistry and a Full Professor at Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics at School of Medicine. Trained as a Medical Microbiologist, he has extensive research experience in microbial signal transduction and biofilm formation. He has applied his knowledge and expertise on medical microbiology to oral microbiology, making some key contributions in understanding the molecular mechanisms of oral microbial pathogenesis and developing novel tools for the diagnosis and treatment of oral pathogens.
