Erich Odermatt is the Vice-President of R&D Closure Technologies located at B. Braun Aesculap in Tuttlingen, Germany, as well as Rubi, Spain. Odermatt received a Primary School Teacher Diploma from the PHFH Solothurn, Switzerland, a diploma in microbiology from the University of Zurich, and a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry (subject: Structure of multifunctional giant extracellular proteins) from the Biophysical Departement, Biocentre of the University of Basel. After postdoctoral studies at the Centre for Cancer Research, MIT, Cambridge, he joined Lonza AG, Basel, as an Industrial Chemist and in 1987 the B. Braun Group where he had different functions in R&D, Production, Quality Assurance, and Regulatory and Scientific Affairs. Currently, he is responsible for R&D Closure Technologies with his main interests in surgical materials like sutures, meshes, and biosurgicals like glues, sealants, hemostats, and scaffolds for the regenerative medicine with >50 publications and >60 patents.
