Asunción Barbero was born in Burgos, Spain. She studied chemistry at the University of Valladolid and received, in 1992, a Ph.D. degree from the same university under Francisco J. Pulido. She then joined Dr. Fleming’s group in Cambridge University as an EC Postdoctoral Fellow during 1993-1995, studying stereocontrol in nucleophilic attack on C=X systems in which the new quiral carbon has a 1,3 relationship to an existing stereogenic center. She came back to Valladolid as an Assistant Professor in 1995 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2001. Her current interests include the development of new synthetic methodologies in organometallic chemistry and the application of organosilicon and organotin compounds to the synthesis of natural products.
