Paolo Barsocchi received his MSc and PhD degrees in Information Engineering from the University of Pisa, Italy, in 2003 and 2007, respectively. Since 2003 he is Assistent Researcher at the ISTI/CNR Institute. He has been involved in many national and European projects: the EU FP6 Network of Excellence in Satellite Networks (Satnex), where he design a reliable multicast protocol; the FP6 Network of Excellence "Interactive Media with Personal Networked Devices" (InterMedia), where he designed the localization system;, and the FP7 Integrated Project “Open Systems Reference Architectures, Standards and ICT Platforms for Ageing Well” (universAAL). He has coauthored more than 60 papers published on international journals and conference proceedings (in publication venues that are considered the excellent ones in his research field, such as IEEE Pervasive Computing, IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine, IEEE TWC, IEEE Wireless Networks, Neural Computing and Applications, The Visual Computer, IEEE JSAC, Ad Hoc Networks), guest‐edited of 3 special issues in international journals/magazines. He has been member of several international program committees, in particular he is one of the founder of the EvAAL international competition (http://evaal.aaloa.org). His research interests are also related to wireless mobile systems and architectures, wireless channel modelling, indoor localization and activity recognition in AAL environment and multimedia communications and services in terrestrial wireless networks.
