Nobuo Masataka was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1954. He received the Ph.D. degree from the Osaka University, Japan, in 1982 by investigating vocal perception in New World primates. From 1984 to 1986, he was a Visiting Fellow at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NIH) in USA. In 1987, he was a Research Fellow at Max-Plank-Institute for Psychiatry in Munich, Germany. From 1988 to 1990, he was a Research Associate of Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University. Presently, he is a professor. He is mainly interested in cognitive neuroscience research with nonhuman primates as well as human infants and children with comparative perspective. He was a Member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Deaf Studies & Deaf Education between 2000 and 2007. Currently, he is a Member of the Editorial Board of Primates and of Language & Learning.
