Yuri N. Sotskov

Yuri N. Sotskov was born in Shakhtersk City, Sakhalin Region (Russia), in 1948. He finished the secondary school with a gold medal in 1966 and started studying at the Belorussian State University. He graduated at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics in 1971. From 1972 to 1974, Sotskov was an engineer at the Research Institute of Automatic Apparatus, Minsk. From 1974 to 1978, he was a senior engineer, a Senior Researcher, and the Head of the Department at the Institute of Building and Architecture, Minsk. In 1978, he started to work at the United Institute of Informatics Problems (UIIP) of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), taking positions of a Junior Researcher, a Senor Researcher, a Vise Director, and a Head of Laboratory of Mathematical Cybernetics. Presently, he takes position of a Principal Researcher of UIIP. In 1980, Sotskov defended his Ph.D. thesis “Some scheduling problems on the mixed (disjunctive) graphs” at the Institute of Mathematics of NASB. In 1991, he defended the D.S. (Habilitated Doctor) thesis “Network models and methods in scheduling theory” at the Institute of Cybernetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He was a supervisor of seven Ph.D. scholars. He obtained the title of a Professor in the application of mathematical models and methods of scientific research (Russian Academy of Sciences, 1994). He has more than 200 research publications on applied mathematics, operations research, and scheduling. He coauthored four monographs and two textbooks. In 1998, Sotskov received the National Price of Belarus in Science and Engineering.
