Holger Schmid was born in Landshut, Germany, in 1966. He received the biology Diploma (Dipl. Biol.) in genetics, microbiology, and biochemistry from the Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU), Munich, Germany. After additional studying from 1993 to 1999 at the Medical School, LMU, he started his medical residency in 2000–2001 at the Medical Policlinic, LMU, (Head: Professor Dr. med. D. Schlöndorff). In 2002, he received the Doctoral degree from the LMU (summa cum laude) and got his Approbation as M.D.. From 2000 to 2006 he completed his medical residency and from 2004 to 2007 his nephrology fellowship, at the Medical Policlinic, University of Munich. Since 2010, he is Head Physician at the KFH Nierenzentrum Munich, Elsenheimerstr. Presently, he is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Munich, Department of Internal Medicine.
