Michael Otto, Ph. D., is a Senior Investigator at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, The National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, MD, USA. His educational background in biochemistry and microbiology is from the University of Tuebingen, Germany. He is a specialist in bacterial pathogenesis, studying the molecular basis of staphylococcal virulence, epidemiology of staphylococcal infection, and mechanisms of host-pathogen interaction in staphylococci, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). He has a particular interest in cytolytic toxins, biofilm formation, immune evasion, and antibiotic resistance.
