Jarret D. Stopforth
Jarret D. Stopforth was born in Gwelo, Rhodesia, Zimbabwe, in 1977. He received his B.S. degree in microbiology in 1999 from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, his M.S. (in 2001) and Ph.D. (in 2004) degrees in food microbiology from Colorado State University, Colo, USA. He started his career as a Microbiologist with IEH Laboratories and Consulting Group in 2004 and was promoted to be the Director of Research and Development in 2006. In 2009, he joined Purac in Gorinchem, The Netherlands, as an Innovation Project Manager for research and development of novel food antimicrobials and preservatives and was transferred to the US office located in Chicago, Ill, in 2010 to serve as the Technical Services Manager for North America. His areas of expertise include surveillance, detection, mitigation, and stress-adaption of organisms, risk evaluations of raw materials, processing facilities, and finished products, and food safety/HACCP systems overview, audit, and revisions. He has published 27 peer-reviewed articles, 6 book chapters, 44 abstracts, and 3 conference proceedings.
