Hongzhuan Tan holds an M.D. degree and a Ph.D. degree in public health. He is a Professor of Epidemiology and Health Statistics and a Vice Dean at the School of Public Health, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, China. He majored in preventive medicine in undergraduate program, and then, he majored in epidemiology in graduated program and Ph.D. program. His research interests include infectious disease epidemiology, chronic disease epidemiology, injury epidemiology, and epidemiologic method. Currently, he focuses on perinatal epidemiology. He has published more than 123 papers and 26 books. He received 5 science and technology achievement awards from Hunan, China. He is an active Member of several committees including Asia Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH); a Vice Director of the Preventive Medicine Education Guidance Committee, Ministry of Education, China; a Vice Director of the School Health Guidance Specialist Group, Ministry of Education, China; a Vice Director of the Preventive Medicine Education Research Association, China; a Vice Director of the Hunan Branch, Chinese Association of Epidemiology; a Director of Community Health Service Specialist Group, Hunan, China; a Member of Standing Committee, Hunan Population Association; a Member of Standing Committee, Hunan Preventive Medicine Association; and a member of editorial committees for 4 Chinese journals in epidemiology.
