John J. Sciarra

John J. Sciarra received his B.S. from Yale University in 1953; his M.D. degree from College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, in 1957; his Ph.D. degree from Faculty of Pure Science (Anatomy), Columbia University, in 1963. He has served as the Thomas J. Watkins Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Northwestern University Medical School, since 1974. He was also the Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at both Northwestern University and the Northwestern Memorial Hospital from 1974 to 2003. He is now a Professor and Chairman Emeritus at Northwestern. From 1991 to 1994, he served as a President of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), an association representing over 100 member countries. Since 1973, he has served as an Editor of the six-volume series, Gynecology and Obstetrics, which is now being transformed to an internet-based publication, entitled The Global Library of Women’s Medicine that will be launched in Fall, 2008. From 1985 to 2007, he was an Editor of the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics (the FIGO Journal) and is now an Editor Emeritus. He is now a Treasurer of the Society of Family Planning and is the Immediate Past President of the American Gynecological Club.
