Raul Velez-Montoya attended the Medical School at the Universidad Anahuac del Norte, Mexico, where he graduated with honors in 2002, in Mexico City. Later, he specialized in ophthalmology at the Instituto Fundación Conde de Valenciana. After completing his residency, he made a fellowship in retina and vitreous diseases. He is currently an Active Member of the Mexican Society of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a Founding Member of the Mexican College for Research in Visual Sciences. His main field of work is diabetic retinopathy (and related topics), age-related macular degeneration, retina laser treatments, retina surgery, central retinal vein, and artery occlusion.
