Prof Chris Bowen is a Professor in Materials at the Materials Research Centre, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Bath. He has a DPhil from the University of Oxford on processing ceramic composites. Postdoctoral research was carried out at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg on reaction processing of ceramic composites, followed by a Research Fellowship at the University of Leeds on ionic conductivity of zirconia composites for sensor applications. He was then a Senior Scientist at Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (now Qinetiq) specialising in piezoelectric composites for transducers. He joined the University of Bath as a Lecturer in 1998. His current research areas of particular relevance to this project include ceramic composites, impedance spectroscopy, piezoelectric materials and the dielectric properties of hydroxyapatite based materials.
