Anthony B. Zwi
Anthony B. Zwi is Convenor of global health in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at The University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. His research and teaching focus on international and global health, with an emphasis on both policy and practice. He seeks to explore their interface with equity, social justice, and human rights and has particular interests in understanding the challenges and responses by communities, health workers, and health systems to experiences of crisis and conflict. He has researched most extensively in Timor-Leste (East Timor) but has partnered with other researchers in a wide range of other settings, mostly in Africa and the Asia-Pacific. He and his colleagues work on the ethics of research in conflict-affected and postconflict settings and on mechanisms to bolster resilience and innovative responses to difficult circumstances. He seeks, also, to build bridges between universities and nongovernmental organizations, public sector policy makers and service providers, and international agencies, in an effort to promote learning.
