Matthias H. Morgalla

Matthias H. Morgalla received his M.D. degree from the Medical School at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Munich, Germany. He commenced his Residency in neurosurgery at Technical University Munich Hospital. He subsequently continued a five-year Clinical Fellowship at the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He successfully completed his Board Examinations and is a Fellow of the College of Surgeons in South Africa (FCS/SA). Thereafter, he returned to Germany and did his Postdoctorate degree on intracranial pressure monitoring at the Department of Neurosurgery of the University of Tüebingen. During this time, he also did a one-year Research Fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital of the Harvard University in Boston, Mass, USA. He works as a Professor of neurosurgery at the University of Tüebingen’s Neurosurgical Clinic. His main research interests are coma, intracranial pressure monitoring, autoregulatory processes of the injured brain, and neuromonitoring. Additionally, he researches the mechanisms of pain in neuromodulative pain procedures.
