Zhiming Shi was born in Hohhot, China, in 1964. He received the Ph.D. degree from the Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2001. From 1988 to 2003, he had been working at the Department of Engineering Mechanics of Inner Mongolia University of Technology (IMUT). In 2002, he served as a Professor in solid mechanics. Since 2004, he moved to the School of Materials Science and Engineering. He is mainly interested in functional ceramics and nanofilms, high-performance aluminum alloys, and materials mechanics behaviors. In 2010, he became a President of the Inner Mongolia Mechanics Society and a Member of the Chinese Mechanics Society. In 2011, he won the Nature Science Award in Inner Mongolia due to the research of the rare earth-modified cordierite ceramics and Titania films.
