Bagher Larijani works as a Professor of endocrinology and internal medicine is Chancellor, Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He earned his M.D. degree in 1987, specializing in internal medicine in 1990, and he did a postdoctoral studies in endocrinology and metabolism in 1993 from Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He has participated in postdoctoral programs in various fields of Endocrinology and Medical Ethics worldwide. He has attended the practical diabetology course in Steno Diabetes Center, endocrinology course in Oxford UK. He attended advanced osteoporosis course in Lyon, France, islet cell transplantation course, UBC, Canada, and a course in medical ethics in Cambridge, UK. He is a Member of noted international associations such as AACE, ADA, IDF, Endocrine Society, EACR, and TIF. He is a Full Member of the International Osteoporosis Foundation. The Research and Education on Management of Osteoporosis and Diabetes Center, located in Iran, under his directorship has achieved the first rank of research and education amongst research centers in Iran and has been recognized as WHO collaborating center for Research and Education on Management of Osteoporosis and Diabetes in the country and the region. He has been actively involved in country-wide research projects, educational activities, and clinical service management through establishing osteoporosis and diabetes networks. He served as an Editor and as a Coeditor of thirty six books in medicine with focus on endocrine and metabolic disorders, and he has published over 200 national and international articles and has supervised more than 300 dissertation titles in the fields of endocrine disorders and internal medicine. He is a Member of the editorial boards of Iranian Journal of Public Health, Journal of Legal Medicine of IRI, scientific Journal of Medical Council of IRI, Journal of Therapy, Journal of Advanced Research Yields in Atherosclerosis, and Archives of Medical Science. He is a Member the Board of Directors of the Iranian Society of Editors-in-Chief of Medical Journals.
