Vincenzo Benagiano received an M.D. degree (Bari, 1988); a Ph.D. degree in morphological science (Roma, 1992); postgraduate courses in immunocytochemistry (Napoli, 1995); telemedicine and telepharmacy (Camerino, 2006). He serves as an Associate Professor of human anatomy at the Faculty of the Medicine and Surgery of the University of Bari. He studied with Professor Glauco Ambrosi, he carried out his scientific activity at the Dipartimento di Anatomia Umana e Istologia “Rodolfo Amprino” of the University of Bari. His research interests are among (1) development and distribution of GABAergic, glutamatergic and peptidergic neuronal and glial populations in the brainstem, cerebellum and cerebral cortex; (ii) dynamic morphology of the GABAergic neuronal systems in the cerebellar cortex; (iii) nervous regulation of cerebral blood flow and metabolism; (iv) development, structure, and functioning of the blood-brain barrier; (v) effects of environmental and toxic substances on the development, cytoarchitecture, and chemoarchitecture of the cerebellum system; (vi) anatomoclinical study of the human somatic motor system.
