Giulio Rastelli is the Head of the Molecular Modeling and Drug Design Laboratory of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. His research group is focussed on the design and development of drug candidates by means of computational methods. His research interests include the rational design of ad hoc molecules designed and developed specifically to interact with a biological target related to a specific disease. Techniques used in the laboratory include structure-based drug design, docking and virtual screening methods, molecular dynamics, bioinformatics and homology modelling, QSAR, and pharmacophore analysis. He has been an Assistant Professor of medicinal chemistry at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia starting since 1996 and was appointed as an Associate Professor in 2005. He received the M.S. degree in chemistry in 1990 and the Ph.D. degree in medicinal chemistry at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy, in 1993. In 1993, he was a visiting scientist at the University of California San Francisco with Professor Daniel Santi and Peter Kollman and a visiting scientist at Kosan Biosciences (Hayward, Calif, USA) starting from 2000.
