M. Mercedes Pastor-Blas
M. Mercedes Pastor-Blas was born in Spain in 1967. She received the Chemistry degree in 1990 and the Ph.D. degree (cum laude) in 1995 from the University of Alicante. Since 1995, she has been teaching and doing research at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the University of Alicante, as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and, since 2009, as a Full Professor. She obtained several pre- and postdoctoral fellowships which allowed her to do several stays in prestigious international research groups, which she made compatible with her position at the University of Alicante: Laboratoire de Physique de la Matière Condensée, Collège de France, CNRS, Paris, France (1994); Center for Adhesives and Sealant Science, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va, USA (1994-1997); School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering, University of Surrey, Guildford, Surrey, UK (1998); Department of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Cincinnati, USA (1999-2000). Her research interests are in the field of surface treatments of polymers (chemical, plasma, corona, and UV treatments) applied to catalysis and adhesion, as well as the study of polymeric surfaces and interfaces. She has developed two patents that are nowadays in commercial exploitation. She works at the Advanced Materials Laboratory of the University of Alicante, Spain, and is a Member of the Adhesion Society (USA), the Scientific-Technical Group of Adhesion & Adhesives (Spain); the Society for Adhesion and Adhesives at Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (London, UK); the Materials Institute of the University of Alicante (Spain).
