Arash Mafi received a Ph.D. degree from the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA, in 2001. He served as a Research Associate at the Optical Sciences Center, Physics Department, and Arizona Center for Mathematical Sciences, University of Arizona, Tucson, Ariz, USA, from 2001 to 2005, where he worked on single- and multicore double-clad and PCF lasers. Mafi worked as a Senior Research Scientist at Corning Inc. from 2005 to 2008. He serves currently as an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wis, USA. His research interests include quantum and nonlinear behavior of optical waveguides, Anderson localization, wave propagation in random media, linear and nonlinear multimode interference devices, and fiber lasers.
