Toshihiro Kita was born in Miyazaki, Japan, in 1960. He received his M.D. degree in 1985 and the Ph.D. degree in 1991 from Miyazaki Medical College, Miyazaki, Japan (recently unified to University of Miyazaki). He completed his internal medicine residency at University of Miyazaki Hospital. From November 1992 to July 1995, he conducted his postdoctoral research at Monsanto Corporate Research, USA. He discovered human uroguanylin and intestinal peptide reacting with guanylyl cyclase C, in this laboratory. He works as a Specialist of hypertension at the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Circulatory and Body Fluid Regulation, University of Miyazaki Hospital. He serves currently as an Associate Professor at University of Miyazaki. He is mainly interested in bioactive peptides like natriuretic peptides, guanylin, uroguanylin, and adrenomedullin. Also, he is interested in aldosterone and primary aldosteronism. Recently, he proceeds with translational research using adrenomedullin in various diseases.
