Kota V. Ramana is currently a Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Tex, USA. He completed his Ph.D. degree at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research at Chandigarh, India. The chief objective of his investigations is to examine the involvement of cellular metabolism and oxidative stress signals in inflammation and to delineate the role of aldo-keto reductases and antioxidant enzymes in the inflammatory signaling pathways. Specifically, he works on how inhibition of aldose reductase prevents hyperglycemia-induced vascular inflammatory complications in small animal models. He uses various genetic, biochemical, and cell biological approaches to analyze inflammatory responses regulated by cellular metabolites leading to diabetes and other inflammatory complications such as sepsis and uveitis. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and 12 book chapters. He is also serving as an editorial board member of several other journals.
