Svein Odegaard was born in 1945. He serves as a Professor at the University of Bergen and Head of Norwegian Centre for Ultrasound in Gastroenterology. He received an M.D. degree from University of Bonn in Germany in 1970. He is specialized internal medicine and gastroenterology. He received a Ph.D. e degree from the University of Bergen, Norway. He serves as a Registrar/Senior registrar, Research Fellow,Consultant, Head and Professor in Norway, Germany, and USA. He served on Several National and International commitees as an evaluator. He worked on the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Ultrasound. He works as a President of the Norwegian Society for Diagnostic Ultrasound and a Board Member of the European Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. He serves as a Senior Member of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. He received several national and international grants. He serves as a supervisor for 8 Ph.D. candidates. He internationally collaborated with the Universities of Washington, Hawaii, and Kentucky. He has scientific publications in 75 international peer-reviewed journals, other journals, and 48 books . His research has focused on gastrointestinal ultrasound including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). Furthermore, he had a Ph.D. degree in biological markers in diseases of the stomach, enzymes, and flow cytometr.
