Kyo Inoue was born in Japan in 1959. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in applied physics and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Tokyo University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1982, 1984, and 1997, respectively. In 1984, he joined NTT Laboratories, where he had studied optical communications (including Mach-Zehnder filters, optical amplifiers, four-wave mixing in fiber, and all-optical functional devices) and quantum communications. From 2001 to 2003, he was on leave from NTT as a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University. In 2005, he moved to Osaka University, where he is currently a Professor.
