José E. Cavazos

José E. Cavazos serves as a Clinician Scientist in epilepsy. He obtained his M.D. degree from Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey in 1987 and the Ph.D. degree in neuroscience from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1993. He was subsequently trained in clinical neurology and neurophysiology at Duke University and has been a Faculty Member of the universities of Wisconsin, Colorado, and Texas. He works as a Tenured Associate Professor of neurology, pharmacology, and physiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He is doing research in basic mechanisms of epileptogenesis, pharmacology, and drug interactions of AEDs, and he is particularly interested in temporal lobe epilepsy, poststroke on epilepsy, and epilepsy in the elderly. He authored three books on epilepsy and over 30 original articles in the field. He is a Member of the editorial boards of the journals Epilepsy Research and Epilepsy and Behavior, and he serves as the Chair of the 2010 Scientific Program of the annual meeting of the American Epilepsy Society.
