Paula Andrade studied aggregation at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Porto University (FFUP), 2004. Andrade obtained a Ph.D. degree in pharmacognosy and phytochemistry from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Coimbra University (FFUC), 1996 and a Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the FFUC, 1990. Andrade currently is an Assistant Professor in aggregation at the FFUP and a Member of the Associated Laboratory REQUIMTE-Green chemistry-Clean technologies and processes, where she leads the research group of Phytochemistry. She is the Head of the Laboratory of Pharmacognosy at FFUP. Andrade's research interests include the following. Metabolomics and bioactivities of natural matrices, including both terrestrial (plants and insects) and marine (macroalgae and macroinvertebrate) organisms. Metabolite profiling concerns phenolic compounds, alkaloids, carotenoids, phytosterols, volatiles, fatty acids, amino acids, and organic acids, applying several methodologies (HPLC/DAD/MS, HPLC/DAD, HPLC/UV, and GC/MS). Biological screening of natural products respects to antioxidant, acetylcholinesterase inhibition, anti-inflammatory and anticarcinogenic potential and cytotoxicity, involving in vitro cellular and noncellular system. Establishment of composition/bioactivity relationships.
