Volker Boehm was born in 1961 in Osnabrück, Germany. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1992 from Münster University, Germany with a thesis titled "Rückstandsanalytik von koplanaren PCB-kongeneren in lebensmitteln und frauenmilch" (Analysis of residues of coplanar PCB congeners in food and human milk). Professor Boehm worked as a Lecturer for human nutrition, Assistant Professor since 1999 (Jena University, Germany).He then became a Senior Assistant Professor in 2003 (Jena University, Germany), and a Senior Scientific Assistant and Research Group Leader in 2005. Areas of expertise include: secondary plant products, mainly carotenoids, polyphenols, bioavailability, contents in food as affected by processing steps, and bioactivities (e.g. antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory effects).
