Carla Pruzzo earned her degree in biological sciences from the University of Genova, Italy in 1974, where she completed the studies in microbiology in 1978 and obtained the Associate Professor position in microbiology in 1986. She joined the medical faculty of the Ancona University in 1990, and currently she is a Professor of microbiology at the University of Genova. Pruzzo has been active in research on bacterial pathogenicity and ecology of pathogens including bacterial adhesion to and biofilm formation onto target substrata with over 90 articles in the field, awarded with national and international grants, and is on the editorial board of national and international microbiology journals. Recently, she became involved in oral bacteria and effect of food constituents in order to improve oral hygiene by food agents to neutralize deleterious activities of the bacteria.
