Vlad Popovici acts as an Assistant Professor of bioinformatics at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic and as a senior researcher at the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses, where he is leading the Integrative Bioinformatics Group. He graduated from Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, with an Engineering degree in computer science, and he received his Ph.D. degree from Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, in 2004. After one year of working as a postdoctoral researcher with EPFL, Popovici joined the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, where he was involved in translational bioinformatics research in breast and colon cancer. His main domains of interest include biomarker discovery and validation, classifier design in high dimensional spaces, and multimodal integrative approaches in bioinformatics.
