Heléne Norder

Heléne Norder is the Head of the Hepatitis and Enterovirus Section at the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control. The Enterovirus Section at SMI is also the WHO National Poliovirus Laboratory responsible for quality control and typing of enteroviruses in Sweden. She is a Microbiologist, and after her university degree she presented her Ph.D. degree on hepatitis B genotypes and serotypes assessed by PCR and sequencing at the Karolinska Institute in 1993. She is now also Associate Professor in virology at the Karolinska Institute. Her work is directed toward molecular epidemiology and source tracing of hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E virus and on molecular typing of enteroviruses in Sweden. She is participating and leading several global networks on hepatitis A, B, and C directed towards molecular epidemiology and nosocomial infections. She has also several international collaborations on the spread and evolution of enterovirus strains causing outbreaks. Norder is the Head of the secretariat for Swedish National Committee for the Certification of Eradication of Poliomyelitis from the European region of WHO. She is also the Swedish WHO Poliovirus Containment Coordinator.
