Marcelo A. Trindade was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1972. He received the B.S. degree in mechanical engineering and M.S. degree in engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1994 and 1996, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM), Paris, France, in 2000. In 2004, he joined, as an Assistant Professor, the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the São Carlos School of Engineering at the University of São Paulo. In 2010, he was promoted to an Associate Professor. His research deals with active, passive, and active-passive vibration control and finite element modeling and optimization of smart structures with focus on applications of piezoelectric materials such as active control, shunted damping, modal filters, and energy harvesting. He is currently a Member of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering (ABCM), the Brazilian Association for Computational Methods in Engineering (ABMEC), and the International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM). He also serves as a Reviewer for several journals including Smart Materials and Structures, Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, Smart Structures and Systems, and Journal of Sound and Vibration.
