Bert Lambooij

Summary Bert Lambooij finished his study at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Utrecht. He worked in veterinary practice in 1976 and as a meat inspector in the years 1977 and 1978. From 1979 till 1995 he worked at the DLO - Institute for Animal Produc¬tion in Zeist and, at present, at the Animal Sciences Group of the Wageningen UR in Lelystad. The PhD was received in 1981. The thesis was entitled “Some neural and physiological aspects of electrical and mechanical stunning in ruminants”. Afterwards he became a research scientist in the fields of euthanasia, stunning, transport, muscle physiology and electronic identification in ruminants, pigs, fur animals, poultry and fish. The basic elements are neural and stress physiology. His main research interests are handling and animal welfare of animals before slaughter.
